The Festival of Flowers – “Laudate Dominum” will be held on friday 27th and saturday 28th august at St John’s Anglican Church, Westcott street, Cessnock.Cr Alison Davey, Mayor of Cessnock will officially open the festival on friday evening at 6.30pm. Windale Rugby League Football Club is holding a benefit night at the Lake Macquarie Tavern Mount Hutton this Saturday 28th August. The benefit night is to raise money for Lisa who lost her fiancé John to a heart attack at the age of 37. Lisa is pregnant with her first child and has had to move out of her home and rent it out in order to keep it. The night promises to be lots of fun and there is a variety of ways to support Lisa and her family including a giant tombola and Auction. The next meeting of the NSW Justices Association Lake Macquarie Branch The International Breast Cancer Intervention Study, IBIS-II, is seeking postmenopausal women aged 40 -70 with a family history of breast cancer to take part in this vital study to find out if breast cancer can be prevented. To be eligible for the study women need to be at increased risk because of a family history of breast cancer, or other risk factors such as certain non-cancerous breast conditions. Women must not have already had invasive breast cancer. The study is being coordinated by Australian New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group and is available to Hunter women through Calvary Mater Newcastle and The Breast Centre, Gateshead. Hunter Home and Natural Birth Support (Maternity Coalition Hunter Branch) is a volunteer non profit community group that provides objective information and a supportive group for women who desire and/or are considering a homebirth or natural birth and parenting. Hunter Home and Natural Birth Support is active in advocating for increased choices in childbirth and in improving services for pregnant women and mothers. They hold daytime meetings every 2nd Wednesday of the month at Newcastle Foreshore Tram Sheds– these are informal gatherings where they share information, hear birth stories and have access to the library. The ladies of Charlestown uniting church, Milson street, Charlestown, invite senior citizens to join them on the first Thursday of each month for a pleasant concert and light luncheon. There is no charge although any small donation would be truly appreciated. The complex has wheelchair access and a handicapped toilet. A free Anxiety Support Group is held on the 1st Wednesday of every month at the Jesmond Neighbourhood Centre, located at 44 Mordue Parade, Jesmond. Participants of the Anxiety Support Group have an opportunity to meet in a friendly atmosphere to offer each other support.
