On the first Sunday of every month, from 2.30pm, The Friends of Creation Ministries invite you to enjoy 2 free DVD screenings starting 2.30pm at the Heights Family Church of Christ, 137 Croudace Street, New Lambton Heights. This Sunday the Dvd’s feature Dr Robert Carter and Phillip Bell . The first film is called “Apemen: missing links and the bible. If you’re over 18, The Wesley Mission Newcastle Community Visitors scheme invites you to become a volunteer to make a difference in someone’s life. You’ll make a commitment to visit a resident of an aged care facility at least once a fortnight and be involved in activities like playing cards, chatting or going for a walk. You’ll be matched to residents with similar interests and backgrounds and visiting times are flexible. For more information, call 4940 8244.
The Belmont Neighbourhood Centre is a not for profit organisation and hold activities and classes at low cost. Here are a few activities that you might be interested in… A Justice of the Peace Service is now available on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9am to 2pm. Volunteers are required for the “Helping your Grandchildren with Homework” course. This course is run through U3A. The popular basic computer skills course’ runs for 4 weeks from Tuesday 7th February and again from Wednesday 7th March. It is held from 1pm to 3pm each day. The Red Cross Telecross service urgently needs volunteers in the Hunter region to make a daily phone-call each morning to check on the well-being and safety of elderly people. Allison Jordan, Telecross Coordinator for the Lower Hunter and Port Stephens says Telecross provides a free daily telephone call to check on the wellbeing of frail-aged, isolated and medically dependent people who are living alone. “Trained and friendly volunteers make a call each morning and if the call is not answered, an agreed procedure is activated. “Telecross in the Hunter Region has a particular need for volunteers who would be available to make calls seven days a week. “The majority of volunteers make several calls per day on a monthly roster basis. “Volunteers are provided with training and ongoing support and can make the calls from the comfort of their own homes or from their workplace. Australia All Over is an Art Exhibition at the Port Stephens Community Art Centre, featuring local artists. The Exhibition runs until 14th March. Port Stephens Community Art Centre is located on Cultural Drive off Shoal Bay Road, Nelson Bay. Toastmasters International is a non-profit organisation helping more than 260 000 members, in 12 800 clubs around the world to conquer their fear of public speaking and become effective leaders. Toastmaster’s help members boost their confidence and allows their talents to blossom. In short, Toastmasters enables its members to be their best. The ladies of Charlestown uniting church, Milson Street, Charlestown, invite senior citizens to join them on the first Thursday of each month for a pleasant concert and light luncheon. The next meeting of the NSW Justices Association Lake Macquarie Branch will be held on Thursday the 2nd of February, at 7pm. The meeting is held at Club Macquarie, Argenton Rd Argenton. Volunteers are required for Hunter Connect’s and Surfers for Autism’s 1st Annual Surf Festival, on Saturday 11th February. 9am to 4pm. You’ll be assisting children in the surf and beach activities, serve lunch, do neck and shoulder massages, chat with parents and help set and clean up. You’ll be provided with water and lunch. The Film premiered in Jerusalem last year and it’s the first of a trilogy of documentaries with the overall title of "Blessing Curse or Coincidence?" produced by the Hatikva Film Trust in the UK. “Israel – The Womb of the Kingdom of God on Earth” is narrated by Lance Lambert, who together with others examines the promises and covenants of the Lord, beginning with the Abrahamic Covenant through to the New Covenant and then the final fulfilment when Our Messiah will return to take up the throne of David. The ladies of Warners Bay Baptist Church invite you to join them for an afternoon Devonshire Tea cruise on Newcastle Harbour and the lower Hunter River. The Olive Branch Café at Wickham is a training café run by The Salvation Army Oasis Hunter organization.The Olive Branch Café provides training for young people to gain accredited training as well as the practical skills needed to begin a career in Hospitality. Trainees are keen to impress our customers with their learning of all aspects of cafe operations. Most will complete Certificate II in Hospitality and move on to employment in our local cafes and restaurants. All funds generated by the Olive Branch Cafe go directly into vocational training, life skills education and personal support for the young people in the program.
