We caught up with a relatively new Christian Artist, Zach Williams. We heard that his story is pretty amazing, and so we thought that we’d ask him to share a bit more with us!

Thanks for talking with us today Zach! Now could you please tell us the story of Zach coming into faith, because our understanding is that it had been a bit of a rocky road?

Well I grew up in church and as a kid my life revolved around going to church. My Dad led worship as I was growing up. But in my high school years I got mixed up with drugs and alcohol, and turned my back on church and what my parents had really raised me around, and wondered my own road for about 15 years. I toured in a rock and roll band for 6 years and got caught up in everything that goes along with that lifestyle – living in the bars every night and playing in clubs. But in 2012, I had been married for about 4 and a half years, and me and my wife were really struggling to make it work out. We were at the end of our rope…

We were invited to a local church in our home town and started going there.  About a month later I had to go off to Europe and tour. I got stuck into my old ways again. We were driving across Spain in the tour bus and our driver was scanning the radio. I heard Big Daddy Weave’s song ‘Redeemed’ come across the radio station and I knew immediately that it was a Christian song. God just really spoke to me in that moment and laid it out:

“Is this what you’re going to do for the rest of your life and is this how you’re going to use this gift that I’ve given you?”

He showed me a small glimpse of what my life could be like. And so I called my wife that night from the hotel room and told her that I was quitting the band, cancelling the rest of our shows and coming home. And that’s what I did. I came home, and we started going to church.

I am very humbled that God can take someone as messed up as me and turn my mess into a message.

I remember falling on my knees one day after my wife and kids had gone to school/work for the day, and I asked God if there was anything in my life that He could use. I wanted to use it to His glory and I couldn’t do it anymore on my own. I wanted Him to save my life. From there God opened so many doors for me that I never thought were possible. Within a few months I was offered a position to lead worship at the church we were going to, and we launched a campus out of that. A year after that I was offered a full time position. Then through that, I met a guy who invited me to Nashville to write some music and together we wrote the song ‘Chain Breaker’. A few months later the record company heard it during a staff meeting and were blown away – and offered me a record deal the next morning!

So that’s a bit of how I came to be where I am today. I was just following what the Lord had led me to do. And now He’s given me a pretty big platform to share my story and I’ve just been blessed to be a part of this. I am very humbled that God can take someone as messed up as me and turn my mess into a message.

What an amazing story Zach! Thank you so much for sharing with us and we are excited for what Gods future holds for you. You can check out more from Zach Williams here!
