Hunter ICU Support Group
August 7 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pmFree
You are warmly invited (with your family and/or friends) to join us at a meeting of the Hunter ICU Support Group for those who have been patients in the Hunter intensive care units.
• The support group meetings are an opportunity for you to have a coffee and a chat with people who have also experienced intensive care. It is hoped that these non-medical meetings will allow you to share your experiences, with other former patients and their families, who are at different stages of recovery. In addition the group can offer educational opportunities with access to ICU staff and other healthcare professionals who can answer questions and offer additional advice and support.
• If you are unable to attend the next meeting but would like to be kept informed about the group please contact Dr. Agness Tembo using the details below to be put on to a mailing list. When you have been ill and in intensive care, it may take time for you to return to your normal self. Exactly how long it will take will depend upon the length of time you have been ill, your weight loss since admission to hospital and your state of health before your illness. Therefore you must not be impatient with your recovery.
• This is a guide to some of the things that may affect you after your intensive care discharge, such as eating and drinking, sleeping and changes in mood. The majority of people have none of these problems. If you do experience any problems, it may be reassuring to know you are not alone.
• Enhance partnership with the community as a way of acknowledging the importance of patients and their families in shaping the future of healthcare delivery for ICU survivors.
The meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 5 PM.
