The Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust

April 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Newcastle ICEJ Israel Awareness Group attempts to teach about the Hebrew roots of our Christian faith, we take every opportunity to learn about those events of Biblical times, like the current Pesach (Passover) feast which was instituted by God as one of His moedim (“appointed times”) and celebrated by Yeshua (Jesus). Today Christians celebrate this time in our Communions, and this year, during Holy Week.

But there are more recently instituted Jewish commemorations too, and the event occurring on Thursday 12th April (the Gregorian calendar) or 27th Nisan (Hebrew calendar), is such a one. Created by the Knesset in 1953, it is Yom Ha Shoah, the Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust.

This year we will be acknowledging this event by watching the official film of the ceremony held at Yad Vashem in 2017. It is a most solemn ceremony held in the presence of  Israeli dignitaries, such as the President Reuven Rivlin, the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Holocaust survivors and  their families, and hundreds of other citizens. Traditionally held in Hebrew, we watch the previous year’s ceremony to which English captions have been added.
